Alex Bailey    /    amb3gq@virginia.edu    /    Detailed CV    /    Pubmed Listings

I graduated from Dr. Peirce's lab with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering in May 2008. I grew up in far-away Maryland (mmm Old Bay!), though I love to travel and would like nothing more than to bounce around the world for the rest of my life, especially if it were by boat. After receiving my undergraduate degree from Tufts, I left Boston (and Fenway? and the Charles River? and great snowboarding?) to attend UVa down south in Charlottesville. I still feel like I just got here, and its been amazing exploring the Blue Ridge mountains, discovering new restaurants, and meeting new people.

University of Virginia
Ph.D., Biomedical Engineering, May 2008

Tufts University, Somerville MA
Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering, Cum Laude, May 2004
Second Major, Biomedical Engineering, May 2004

Research Interests
Studying the response of the microcirculatory system to ischemic insult, the putative role of therapeutic stem cells and progenitor cells in enhancing the vascular recovery response, and understanding how cell adhesion molecules interact to mediate circulating cell trafficking. I use computational models combined with in vivo experiments to analyze these topics and others relating to microvascular growth and remodeling.
