I am a fourth-year graduate student in Biomedical Engineering at UVA. I grew up all over the South, from Memphis to South Carolina, so Virginia winters were a big shock to me when I moved here as an undergraduate freshman starting at Virginia Tech. I represent part of the small but strong Hokie minority here in Charlottesville, and I love wearing orange and maroon around campus. I live in Richmond with my husband and adorable Rottweiler mix, so the daily commute is a big part of my life. Luckily, I have a very supportive vanpool to help make it easier! My research interests include developing drug-loaded biodegradable polymer scaffolds for tissue engineering, and I’m currently focusing on bone remodeling and regrowth. I enjoy spreading the love of biomaterials to undergraduates as a teaching assistant in Dr. Botchwey’s Biomaterials course.
