Welcome to Dan Bowers and Tony Awojoodu, who join us to begin their graduate studies in our masters and doctoral programs, respectively. Congratulations to Dr. Gbemi Oredein-McCoy on her successful Dissertation Defense on June 12! She's headed off to LifeNet Health for the summer to complete her BTP externship, and then she'll attend Duke University in the fall for medical school.
January 2009:
Congratulations to Dr. Sefcik for receiving the Award for Excellence in Scholarship in the Sciences & Engineering. This one-time $5000 award recognizes excellence in original scholarship by Ph.D. students at the University. In addition, it rewards those students bringing recognition to graduate programs at U.Va. through their intellect, dedication, creativity, and passion.
December 2008:
Congratulations to Dr. Lauren Sefcik on her successful Dissertation Defense on December 17!
Lauren presented her research in an oral presentation at the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) in San Diego, CA. Lauren was also the recipient of a student travel award to attend the conference.

Congratulations to Dr. Caren Petrie Aronin on her successful Dissertation Defense on May 5! She accepted an offer from Rocky Tuan to postdoc at the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, Cartilage Biology and Orthopaedics Branch, where she will start in August.
Dr. Botchwey presented the lab’s research in both oral and poster presentations at the World Congress for Biomaterials in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
