Laboratory for Tissue Engineering

About us:

Exciting new advances in drug discovery, computational systems biology and tissue engineering foreshadow a new era in regenerative medicine as breakthrough technologies are made available to address a wide variety of unsolved medical problems. The laboratory for converging technologies (LCT) is focused on the synergistic integration of these important domains in biomedical sciences and engineering for development of effective new strategies to repair, replace, preserve or enhance tissue or organ function. Specific areas of interest include 1) Regulation of inflammatory cell recruitment and tissue neovascularization by phthalimide neovascularization factors (PNFs) and phospholipid growth factors such lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) and sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P); 2) Mechanistic interrogation of drug therapies using network analysis tools of cell signaling and tissue level remodeling; 3) Developing enabling bioreactor technologies to improve ex vivo tissue synthesis; 4) Developing biomimetic scaffold biomaterials for bone and nerve tissue regeneration; and 5) Developing novel contact lenses delivering lacritin for treatment of dry eye.
